To SWY2025 “Tourism Course” Members
Thank you to the SWY members for comed to Kataean.
If this article has reached you, you’ll understand how I attract customers.
It’s like putting a message in a glass bottle and sending it out into the Sea of Japan in front of me.
I hardly use social media.
Furthermore, I don’t use travel introduction sites either.
Instead, Guesthouse Kataean created its own platform for its website and blog,
and has been disseminating information mainly through those since it opened.
I’ll tell you why.
Most social media is push-type.
Any text, video, or image you enter is instantly delivered to users on the platform. It’s very convenient.
However, I’m pull-type.
No one can see my articles unless they visit my website.
How do people find this site?
One way is through web keyword searches (through text matching),
andalso through word-of-mouth reviews of Kataean.
In particular, reviews from peoplewho have used Guesthouse Kataean are introduced through various social media, and then lead to Kataean’s website.
And then they lead to blog articles.
Of course, when it comes to attracting more customers,
it’s much more advantageous to use social media and travel sites.
However, many of the people who come to Kataean know that
it’s worth coming here and have high travel literacy.
And they often look at Kataean’s website and blog.
So I like this approach.
I think that in the future, various SNS platforms will disappear.
I think that Chat GPT and other AIs will instantly create similar platforms andprovide accurate search results that are not dependent on those platforms.
I predict that in the near future, we will be freedfrom the dependency on the current business relationship between SNS and users.
To achieve this, I believe it is necessary to have my own platform and
post my thoughts and feelings in text and videos on the web under my own domain, and that’s why I run it.
In that speech, I said, “.In this age of social media, we can access all kinds of information anytime.”
Furthermore, I also conveyed this message.
“I think it’s very important to meet and talk in person,
Because we can know the truth
And We can feel the atmosphere and people’s expressions.”
I’m sure this message will reach you.
When you receive it, please send me an email.

Konichiwa Aoto san.
Greetings from Jakarta, Indonesia.
Thank you so much for hosting the SWY CD 6 group at your guesthouse and allowing us to experience warm and meaningful moments with the family there.
The smiles and excitement of the people who greeted us when we arrived really made us curious about Kataean. We had only read about it in blogs and reviews, and when the day came to visit the guesthouse, we were surprised to find that the beauty of the sea, the homely guesthouse, and the dedication of the people were more than what was described in the articles.
When we got off the bus to see the ocean from the best spot on the top of the hill, I was mesmerized by the beauty of that panoramic ocean. And that winter, I imagined a scene from a Japanese romantic film, where a happy coincidence happened. I told my colleague that if I were a film producer, I’d want to make a love story film here.
It is a rare experience for everyone in the group to make things out of bamboo, really long and big bamboo. It was not about the chopstick or the bowl or the cup we made out of it, but the way you made us work together, be creative, and take care of each other, and at the same time appreciate the nature of how bamboo can see itself differently. We explored the best of our version through this workshop. We can see it in the smile of pride that everyone shows while carrying the crafts.
The best moment for me was having lunch with the host family at their home, even though it was only a couple of hours, the discussion with Otosan and Obasan around the table while making onigiri together took me back to my family at home. Interacting with the children and watching them prepare beautiful origami made me feel at home. And it brought back memories of when I was a participant in the Ship Youth Programme 20 years ago and stayed with my foster family. I guess this is what makes people want to go back to Kataean.
Yes, it was winter with wind and snow, but I forgot all about it during the discussion in the guesthouse. I think the others enjoyed those moments as well. We prepared this kind of information and discussion before sharing our analysis and suggestions, but what happened was that we learned more from the real experience and related that to our home countries. we can also develop our version of Kataean Guesthouse in our country.
The surprise was never-ending, even until the last hour we had together, one of our members was jumping happily and excitedly to get the roulette to wear the Samurai Armor and two beautiful friends had the chance to wear Kimono. Apart from the kimono and armor we tried, the song we sang closed our visit and took me home to the place where I belong, and that place is Kataean Guesthouse.
Thank you again for a wonderful experience. I will visit you again with my family and try the canoes in summer for sure 🙂
Now I understand why this channel is better than the SNS, I can share the whole experiences I felt here and agree with you that through this communication, only tourists who look for true guesthouse experiences will value this more than just a tourist. I’m happy to support more ideas in promoting this.
Take care, Aoto san. Take care of all the family there. See you in the near future.
Cheers, Tong Tong

Dear Yuji Aoto,
Thank you for sharing your unique approach to attracting customers to Guesthouse Kataean.
Your philosophy of pull-based marketing, relying on organic discovery through web searches and word-of-mouth, is both thought-provoking and inspiring.
In an era dominated by social media, your strategy highlights an alternative and more intentional way of connecting with travelers—those who actively seek meaningful experiences rather than simply following trends. It’s refreshing to see someone prioritizing quality engagement over sheer reach.
Your perspective on the future of AI-driven search and the eventual decline of social media dependency is particularly fascinating. The idea that individuals and businesses should cultivate their own digital presence, free from platform-based algorithms, aligns with the evolving digital landscape.
Furthermore, your emphasis on in-person interactions resonates deeply. The authenticity of face-to-face communication is irreplaceable, and no matter how much technology advances, the human element will always remain at the core of genuine connections and experiences.
My Personal Perspective:
I come from a generation before the rise of many social media platforms, yet I strongly believe that they are an incredibly powerful tool that should never be underestimated. I encourage you to explore them yourself, not just to keep up with trends but to compare different marketing approaches and evaluate their real impact.
We must not overlook the preferences and inclinations of future generations. Marketing is not just about the present; it’s about adapting to what’s ahead. Personally, I work in the field of executing programs for sports and youth, and I utilize all possible channels to promote these activities. Whenever I conduct surveys asking participants how they heard about a program, the overwhelming response is always: “Through social media platforms.”
Therefore, I can confidently say that I have gained extensive experience in crafting compelling marketing content that effectively targets various generations. I would be happy to assist you in designing a marketing strategy that blends your unique pull-based approach with the power of social media, ensuring your message reaches a broader audience while preserving the essence of your philosophy.
In Conclusion,
I sincerely thank you for hosting us at **Kataean** and for providing such a remarkable and unforgettable experience. It was a pleasure to learn more about you and your distinctive approach to business. I would also like to extend a special thanks to the family that hosted us in their home—their generosity and hospitality made this experience even more memorable.
I look forward to staying in touch and would be delighted to collaborate with you in the future.
